How to Get Great Peel Results
-
1. Be sure to wash your face thoroughly to remove dirt and makeup. Do not apply a moisturizer or a moisturizing cleanser before using peel acid. This creates a lipid layer which blocks peel acid from effectively penetrating. Bar soaps can tend to leave a film on the skin's surface, as well.
- 2. Your skin contains the acid mantle, a barrier on the surface of the skin created by sebum and sweat to protect you against bacteria and may be a factor in the natural shedding and renewal process of your skin. The pH of your skin varies between 4.5 and 6.2. It is important to lower the pH before performing a chemical peel. You may use Pre-Peel Cleanser to assist in this process. Salicylic Acid 2% Exfoliator is also great for opening the pores and allowing the peel acid to penetrate more effectively.
- 3. If using Glycolic or Salicylic Acid peel solutions, even TCA, you can increase effectiveness by buffing the skin repeatedly and applying more pressure, especially when applying Salicylic Acid before using other peel solutions. Jessner's Solution, applied in a single layer or two will give light exfoliation, while 4-6 layers will lead to a deeper peel result.
- 4. Use Hyaluronic Moisturizer Serum after your peel. You have just rapidly turned over several layers of dead skin, leaving moist, young skin exposed to the elements. It is crucial to keep it moisturized while it is maturing so that your results will be optimum.
